FG Opens Applications for Second Batch of TVET Programme

The Federal Government has confirmed that applications for the second batch of the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme will begin today, with the registration portal set to go live 13th April, 2026 at exactly 4:00 p.m. (WAT).

The update was shared by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. He highlighted that this new phase is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, the launch of the second batch comes on the heels of massive interest recorded during the first phase, which saw over 1.3 million applications from across the country.

Growing Interest in Skills-Based Training

The TVET Programme has quickly become one of the government’s key initiatives focused on equipping Nigerians with practical, job-ready skills that support employment, entrepreneurship, and self-sufficiency.

Alausa explained that the high number of applications received previously shows that more Nigerians are beginning to recognize the importance of technical and vocational skills in improving their economic prospects.

He added that the figures not only reflect the level of unemployment in the country but also highlight the strong desire among citizens to gain skills that can directly lead to income generation.

The programme is open to individuals of different age groups, including young people and older adults looking to switch careers or gain new competencies.

Application Portal Goes Live Today

Interested applicants can begin registration once the official portal opens at 4:00 p.m. today on the government’s TVET platform.

The Ministry of Education noted that the programme is available to Nigerians willing to undergo training in various technical and vocational fields, particularly those aligned with current market demands.

Importance of the TVET Initiative

The Federal Government continues to emphasize vocational and technical education as a practical approach to addressing unemployment and underemployment in Nigeria.

Unlike traditional academic routes, TVET focuses more on hands-on training in areas such as construction, manufacturing, ICT, automotive services, agriculture, renewable energy, and other productive sectors.

Experts believe that expanding access to this kind of training can help close the skills gap in many industries while also encouraging entrepreneurship and small business growth.

Economic Impact

The rollout of the second batch comes at a time when Nigeria is working to reduce its dependence on oil and boost productivity in other sectors.

By increasing the number of skilled workers, the programme is expected to contribute to:

  • Job creation, especially for young people
  • Reduction in poverty levels
  • Growth of small and medium-scale businesses
  • Improved productivity across industries

For many Nigerians, the TVET Programme also represents an opportunity to achieve financial independence, especially in the face of rising living costs and limited white-collar job opportunities.

Key Information for Applicants

Prospective applicants are required to complete their registration through the official portal once it becomes active later today.

The Minister encouraged Nigerians who are determined to improve their lives through hard work and skill acquisition to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the programme is designed to empower individuals to shape their own future.

With demand already high, the second batch is expected to attract even more applications nationwide.
