ITPN GOVERNMENT STRUCTURE

LAW GOVERNING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ITPN, THE GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE, AND INFRACSTRUCTURE THAT UNDERPINS THE ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTE.

The Institute for Tourism Professionals was established under section 26 of CAMA 1990, CAP C20 of Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004, Registration Number: 898445, as a higher, vocational and tertiary level professional membership institute. Section 4 charges the Institute with the responsibility of meeting the changing manpower needs of tourism and allied industries. Certificate of Registration, and Memorandum and Articles of Association.

Section 4(a) of the Institute’s establishing instrument mandated ITP:
“To furnish the tourism sector with professional personnel who can provide good quality standard of products and services”

Section 4(b) requires ITP;
“To raise and promote the standard of tourism and allied industries’ practice”

“To promote professional ethics and efficiency in tourism administration and practice”

Governance Structure

The Institute for Tourism Professionals   is a company limited by guarantee and does not have a share capital. It is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a board known as the Council. The Council is the highest policy formulation organ of the Institute. The council functions through the Secretariat and committees.

The President of the Institute is the Chairman of council and head of the Executive Committee of the Institute. He directs the programme and mandate of the Institute on behalf of members. 

The Secretariat of the Institute is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Institute. At its helm of affairs is the Director General who is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Institute. He is assisted by two Directors who are responsible for the Corporate Office and The Registrar-Academic/Curriculum affairs respectively. The Secretariat is responsible to the Council who employs members of staff; establishes remuneration policies, terms and conditions of service and disciplinary actions. 

Infrastructure that Underpins the Activities of the institute

The Board carries out its activities through seven (7) departments. At its helm of affairs is the Director General who is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Institute. He is assisted by two Directors who are responsible for the Corporate Office and The Registrar-Academic/Curriculum affairs respectively.

These Departments include:
– Administration
– Information & Communications Technology (ICT) 
– Finance & Accounts
– Registrar’s Office
– Qualifications Development
– Quality Assurance Department
– Research and Statistics.

ITP has sufficient staff and technical resources to support its accredited qualifications.

Inclusion of the national skills qualification (NSQ), levels 1 to 6 in the scheme of service

The National Council on Establishments (NCE) at its 45th Meeting held from 11 to 13th December, 2023 in Bauchi, Bauchi State approved the inclusion of the National Skills Qualifications Levels 1 to 6 in the Schemes of Service as follows:

4.1.1 NSQ Level 1: NVC I, Pre-vocation, Junior Secondary School (JSS):
4.1.2 NSQ Level 2: NVC II, NABTEB (Modular Exams):
4.1.3 NSQ Level 3: NVC, Pre-vocation, Senior Secondary School (SSS);
4.1.4 NSQ Level 4: ANTC/ANBC. Trade Test I;
4.1.5 NSQ Level 5: ND/NID; and
4.1.6 NSQ Level 6: HND/Degree

The Circular reference: HGSF/SP5O/ODD/CND/100/S.1/197 takes effect from December, 2023. the date of Council’s. approval.
